Waiting for the light

Well, you saw the results I got from doing this for WWPD.  This is how I rigged the camera.

Using a plastic jar lid, trace a circle a little smaller than the outer diameter of the lens mounting flange on a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil.

Mounting diameter marked.

Use some clear packing tape to stiffen the foil.

I used a dental pick to score the crosshairs for the center of the foil, then cut it out with some scissors.

I don't know what size this needle is, just that it was smaller than the push-pin I originally used.  I pushed just enough of the tip through the foil for a small hole.

I see the the light!

Next, trace a circle larger in diameter than the lens mounting flange in some painters tape, which has been applied to a plastic battery container (or whatever you have that you don't mind scoring).  Gaffers tape would be excellent for this.

Then trace a circle smaller than the diameter of the lens mount on the tape.  Smaller than this size would be better.

Here we have the mounting tape ready to be cut with an Exacto blade.

And the mounting tape is now ready to be mated to the foil.

Here is the finished product.  Later on, I plan on making this out of some stiffer material, with a smaller foil piece in the center.  The 35mm viewfinder is an added touch, as this arrangement is somewhat wide angle.

I like it, Phil.  Nice work, nice tutorial.  I won't be doing this to my C-3 as it's in perfect working condition, but others are out there for a dime a dozen.

This doesn't harm the Argus body at all, Pete, and is fully removable.  Painters tape will only stick hard if it's left on too long.  Even then, it's a simple matter of cleaning off the residue with some alchohol.

Oh, hey, cool, then it's definitely worth a try.  Smiley
