Now, if I turn off the firewall, it allows me to post URLs. Was this what caused me, foolishly, to leave it off last time? Strange. I need to go dig around for answers over on SMF tech boards.

Will leave forums active for now.

Let's post it via BBC for hyperlink; google.com

OK, that worked. How about h t t p://google.com ?

Ah, that fails and kills any attempt to edit or delete the content.

Weird.

As clarification:

The Apache firewall is working for us, not against us. I suspect it might be set a bit aggressively and is blocking full URLs as possible attempts to overflow buffers and inject malicious code from the comment box.

IF you receive a 403, did your post or thread contain a URL? If so, attempt to post the item using the
Code:
[url][/url]
and remove the
Code:
h t t p://
from the link. That should allow the link to pass.

I also wonder how this affects image posting. Testing that next.

Same issue with images: remove the
Code:
h t t p://
from the URL and it will post without error. Wrap same in
Code:
[img][/img]
and the image displays. Understood?

Noted: modifying the thread once successfully posted without the
Code:
h t t p://
will clearly show that the system has reinserted the
Code:
h t t p://
and if you do not remove it, the subsequent attempt to post your edit will fail to 403.

This is a pain the ass, yes. I need to find an answer and I will. Either, there's a workaround from the SMF community, or, there's some way of adjusting the filtering, server-side, for Apache firewall.

We are not, repeat, NOT infected/compromised at this time. The 403s are caused by robust settings within host's Apache web server. All's working as should. Just need to make some adjustments.

Thanks for your continued efforts Craig. I may not have time to post (or much photography for that matter) at the moment, but I do drop in briefly most days for a read. You don’t miss your water till your well runs dry…

Our host made some adjustments on their end and we are now able to post full URLs, without BBCode containment, and the links will auto-parse as intended.

Problem(s) solved, for now.

Cheers!
