A few minutes ago a young man walked into my place of business and asked for me. I came out and he introduced himself and said he was a teacher at one of our Jr.High Schools. He had a problem and my daughter inlaw who teaches with him said I might be able to help him.He was looking for empty 35mm film canisters and hadn't been able to find any . She told him I was still using film and had all sorts of stuff at my store. Well, we'll cut to the chase and say he walked out with a box full(approx 150 or so). You just never know where "stuff"will end up. Just a light moment on a Friday morning. Regards,Bill

I wonder what he wanted them for, Bill. I remember years ago, someone made a boat out of them. Well, they float very well...

A boat -- Har! That's a good one Dean. He uses 'em for the same thing I do. Reloading with bulk film. There's no place around here for me to get any, so I have mdcarma go mooching at the mini labs and send 'em. They just throw 'em in the trash. For those uninitiated, those mini lab machines cut the film off, leaving a little piece sticking out of the cassettes. Tape yer film to it and wind away. Hey, wait a minute --- you said cannisters? You mean the little cans? Maybe he is building a boat. Or making pinhole cameras out of 'em, which is more likely. A popular school project.

I thought Bill was talking about the cans that film comes in. There really was some person who made a kind of pontoon boat out of the cans. I remember a write up about it in one of the photo mags of the '70s, I think.

Speculation's fun. And, if we keep talking about it on the internet long enough, it becomes fact, right?

I bet $100 he's an art teacher and wants to use them for his students to mix paints in.

Well josphy was correct with the art teacher. Seems there was a half day in service for the teachers. This particular teacher came up with an idea to make one of those toys which has a wooden bead on a string and a pencil or dowel inserted through the bottem of the plastic film canister. You attemped to flip the bead up into the canister. Like one of those toys from Mexico. They also had to decorate their"project". A room full of teachers flipping beads. I wonder if this had anything to do with "no child left behind"? Anyway thanks for playing. Regards,Bill
