Just picked up a Oly XA2 and flash for $4. Not sure if seller was pissed or what but when package came today the camera was wrapped in plastic and was soaked in some kind of oil or solvent. Smelled like gun oil. Box was pretty dry so I have to assume it was done prior to boxing. After wiping it off and checking things out all seems ok. What the hell ??

Hm...I just usually smear everything with dog feces. If they don't want that, it's an additional $10 shipping/handling charge per item.

I have seen cameras sprayed with WD-40. To protect it? Naaahhhh. I hope not in your case!

It really smells like gun oil. It was wrapped in plastic like sran wrap. After that paper was added to cushion it. The plastic was smeared with this oil then wrapped. I just have no idea. I wiped it off the camera. and it works fine but for the life of me cannot figure this out. I guess I will email to see what gives. not sure about feed back maybe I just put neutral with
WTF !!!!!:mystery:

What the...? Sure is a weird incident, Travis.
Maybe the seller reused the wrapping from a brand-new .45?
Now I'll have to be careful about getting oil-bathed gear...

Please interpret what you see carefully, Travis. She has a good record so far, so there is certainly no indication that she does this as a normal thing. Considering that there is no logical reason to apply oil to anything just purchased, its most likely that either the oil might have been on a re-used wrapper, or it might have been resident in the camera, left over from a previous owner's over-exhuberent cleaning job. Vendors often just turn around items from estate sales, so it can happen, and you would probably not want her to muck around with cleaning it inexpertly--I would not. What happened was unusual, but probably not intentional, so don't assume she's out to intentionally oil other camera equipment.

Just a hunch--leaky batteries in the flash, or in the Oly? I got a Yashica RF one time whose battery had oily leakage.

I am not sure what heppened. I am not saying it was done to be mean or anything. I have no idea why it was done. But it is very clear it was applied and not residual. I should have taken photos but reflex kicked in and I cleaned it off the camera, plastic is still wet. It also did not leak into the box, Box was clean. It was not just residual oil it was alot and it was oils that most likely did not come in the form of aerosol. Plastic is dripping wet. No battery in it. It was wrapped in plastic with this stuff on the inside of it.
Oh well I sent an inquiry email. Have not left any kind of feedback on this. just very puzzling..... Oils and cameras not good bedfellows.

Why would I assume anything other than it was intentional the outside was clean. However the reason is up in the air. Go ahead and bid on that lens. Just letting you know this was where this came from. Can't think of one good reason to roll a camera in crisco then wrap it up in plastic and ship it off. Added pics kind o fhard to capture but her it is. Soaked box inside only. This was on the bottom. Saoked plastic inside only..... Another piece of plastic look close the yellow you see is oil. Anyway other than a bit stinky everything is ok. Just kind of makes me mad.

It's clear to me, Travis. I would be upset and perplexed too. Letting her know how it arrived seems right, so that you can judge how to rate the packing and shipping. Very unusual.

Yeah just venting............:beating_dead_horse:
Other than just asking I am not gonne give her bad feedback. Other that the packing the camera was fine. maybe it was for protection.
Just very very odd. Now if my 6006 showed up like that........
