If the meter is on, the K1000 is a great shooter. Rugged and easy to handle.

The 680 is the same as the SX-70, except it has a sonar AF and flash built-in, plus it is rated for 600 film, which is still produced and easy to find. On ebay they've been going for a lot more than I can afford, but for less than $100 shipped, I can bite the bullet. It's one of the few Polaroid cameras I really want and don't have, so now I can scratch that off the list I suppose. I can't wait to play with it - I have a few fresh packs of 600 I'll be saving for it...
And whaddaya mean, JUST a Polaroid?! :censored:

So why do those SL 680's go for so much?:dizzy: It's Just a polaroid right. It's the best SLR/integral film Polaroid ever made. You get SLR manual focusing or sonar autofocus, +2/-1 stop exposure compensation, manually switchable flash with exposure set by distance (and compensated by the compensation dial, I think), automatic time exposures to something like 30 seconds, a fresh battery in every pack of still-in-production 600 film, tripod mount, and easily obtainable self timer and remote release. And all of that folds into a flat package just over an inch thick at the viewfinder housing, less than an inch everywhere else -- which can be opened and ready to shoot in about three seconds; with autofocus and daylight that doesn't require flash, you can actually make an image in that same three seconds. Oh, yeah, and the autofocus is so fast you probably can't finish depressing the release past the prefocus point to the actual exposure point faster than it will focus -- takes the actual return time of a single sound pulse plus 0.05 seconds to actuate the focus; try *that* with your DSLR. No, autofocus won't work through a window -- that's what the manual override is for, mostly. |

I thought the 690 was the best ? Second best not bad either. If there are any functional differences between the SLR680 and the 690, they're very minor -- at most, things like a longer maximum exposure time, which is of limited usefulness given the poor reciprocity characteristics of most Polaroid films. For most purposes, they're identical, and my comments about the 680 are equally applicable to the 690. |
